Timely preparation and smooth conduct of the electoral process
Sarajevo, 25 September 2026 – The Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina, together with the supplier – the consortium of bidders Smartmatic BH d.o.o. and DSC d.o.o. Smartmatic BVI, has completed key planned activities for the preparation of the implementation of specific election technologies for the 2026 General Elections within a very short period of time.
Photographs from the warehouse showing the configuration of the equipment testify to the intensity of the activities and the commitment of all participants in this complex process. At this stage, several important processes are being carried out in parallel, including the testing and configuration of devices, printing and inspection of ballot papers, verification of QR codes, as well as training of polling station committee members, operators and field support technicians.
Considering the complexity of the project, the introduction of new election technologies, the tight deadlines and the late conclusion of the contract, the progress achieved is the result of significant engagement and coordination among all institutions and partners involved. Despite the challenges and obstructions that accompanied the public procurement procedure, the members of the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina, employees of the Secretariat of the CEC BiH, the Temporary Unit for the Implementation of Specific Election Technologies, municipal and city election commissions, the supplier and project partners are making every effort to ensure that all remaining activities are completed within the envisaged deadlines.
The OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina and certain non-governmental organizations are making a particular contribution to this process, with their support and cooperation further contributing to strengthening capacities and ensuring the successful preparation of the electoral process.
The 2026 General Elections represent one of the most demanding electoral processes in Bosnia and Herzegovina, particularly in view of the introduction of new technologies, the scope of logistical activities and the limited time available for implementation. To date, the CEC BiH and all partners involved in the project have successfully kept pace with the planned activities and are continuously working to fulfil the remaining obligations.
Through the joint engagement, responsible approach and coordination of all participants, the conditions are being created for the elections on 4 October 2026 to be conducted in an organized and secure manner and in accordance with legal obligations and established procedures.
The results achieved are the joint effort of all participants in the project and confirm the commitment of the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in cooperation with its partners, to ensuring the timely preparation and smooth conduct of the electoral process.
