Promoting the initiative to mark the Global Election Day

Sarajevo, 01.02.2024 - At the conference of the Association of Electoral Officials of Europe (ACEEEO) held in 2005, more than 20 member countries agreed to launch an initiative to establish the first Thursday in February as a day that would represent a trademark of democratic elections throughout the world, i.e. as World Election Day.

The Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina has been promoting this initiative for the eighteenth year. On this occasion, the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina held an interactive lecture for students on the topic “Elections: Legislation, Process and Institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina” in its Education Center. Representatives of the Association of Election Officials in Bosnia and Herzegovina and members of certain municipal election commissions attended as guests. Dr. Irena Hadžiabdić, president of the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina, delivered a speech on this occasion, while Dr. Suad Arnautović, member of the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina, delivered the lecture.

A joint message was sent that it is necessary to continuously work on improving the electoral legislation and the electoral process.

The first Thursday in February has been proposed as the date for marking of the World Election Day because most international agreements in the field of elections were signed on or around that date.

The Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina invited the municipal/city election commissions to promote the initiative to mark World Election Day in an appropriate way.
