Dr. Irena Hadžiabdić is the president of the BiH CEC as of January 1, 2024

Sarajevo, 21.12.2023 – The Central Electoral Commission of BiH has at today's 80th conducted the procedure for electing the president of the Central Electoral Commission of BiH. The election was made from amongst the Other members.

After the procedure was carried out, the Central Election Commission of BiH, in accordance with the Rules of Procedure, made a decision dr. Irena Hadžaibdić will assume the position of the President of the Central Election Commission of BiH as from January 1, 2024.

In line with Article 2.6 of the BiH Election Law “The President of the Central Election Commission of BiH shall be elected from amongst its members.  One Croat, one Bosniak, one Serb and the other member of the Central Election Commission of BiH shall each serve as the President for one 21 month rotation in a seven year period.”

The current president of the BiH Central Election Commission, Dr. Suad Arnautović, thanked all his colleagues for their contribution to successful completion of the president’s term in the extremely challenging time from April 1, 2022 to date. He underlined the organization and the conduct of the 2022 General Elections in BiH as the most significant activity. He pointed out that public media attacks on the institution, physical threats to members of the Central Election Commission of BiH, disinformation and malicious news aimed at confusing the public, discrediting the institution and members of the Central Election Commission of BiH represented an element of pressure on officials in the performance of their official duties. The Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina responded transparently to all disinformation, wrong, false and malicious information. And despite everything, all planned activities were completed within the stipulated deadlines, and in this sense he emphasized the opinion of the OSCE/ODIHR observer mission from January 2023, in which, among other things, it is stated that: “The Central Election Commission (CEC) conducted the elections efficiently, transparently and within the legal deadlines, despite the delays caused by the late payment of the necessary funds and the great lack of human resources.”

Dr. Hadžiabdić thanked for the vote of confidence. She will assume the duties of president of the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina on January 1, 2024.
