Money in Politics

The conference in Chisinau was opened by Mrs. Maia Sandu, President of Moldova.

The purpose of the conference was to exchange knowledge and experience in solving the challenges brought by digitization and online campaigning in the financing of election campaigns. The participants considered the main trends and identified efficient solutions and transferable practices in protecting the integrity of the financing of political and election campaigns in the digital age.

Insufficient regulation and oversight of the integrity of election campaign financing is a long-standing global challenge. Political finance oversight bodies and civil society actors around the world face similar challenges in ensuring that online campaigns are in line with democratic standards that enable the equality of competitors, the principles of free and fair voting, transparency and accountability from the aspect of the role of money in politics.

This two-day regional conference brought together election campaign financing monitoring agencies, representatives of civil society, political parties, international organizations, representatives of online platforms, as well as election and media experts from Eastern Europe.
