Ambassador Reilly visits the BiH CEC

Sarajevo, 22.03.2023 - Ambassador of the United Kingdom in Bosnia and Herzegovina H.E. Julian Reilly and his colleagues visited the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina today, where they met with the president and members of the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The President of the Central Election Commission of BiH, Dr. Suad Arnautović, reminded of the previous cooperation and thanked for the support that the Central Election Commission of BiH received from the Government of Great Britain. He particularly highlighted a very important segment of the electoral process in 2022 that was improved thanks to the financial support of the Government of Great Britain. The BiH CEC had for the 2022 General Elections of 2022, thanks to the financial support of the British Embassy, introduced a very important novelty through a project realized by the Association of Election Officials in BiH. Namely, environment-friendly stamps were introduced that were used to verify the ballots. The security stamp determines the authenticity and integrity of the ballot, used at the polling station, aimed at preventing electoral manipulation and fraud. A total of 6,090 security stamps were made.

During the meeting, dr. Arnautović also announced two important activities of the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2023. The planned activities relate to the implementation of the "Pilot project of European Union to introduce new technologies into the electoral process in Bosnia and Herzegovina" and the organization of a post-election conference where the electoral process and challenges faced by the election administration during the implementation of the 2022 General Elections are analyzed and which should result in recommendations for improving the electoral process and legislation in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina would appreciate receiving assistance of the international donors, namely the possibility to have donors consider sponsoring the aforementioned activities.
