Election campaign – Early elections for the mayor of Stari Grad Sarajevo Municipality

Sarajevo, 16.10.2023– In accordance with the Instruction on the deadlines of election activities for the holding of early elections for the mayor of Stari Grad Sarajevo Municipality, the election campaign has begun on Saturday, October 14, 2023 and will last until October 28, 2023 by 7:00 a.m. when the election silence begins. Election silence lasts until the polling stations are closed, i.e. until October 29, 2023 by 7:00 p.m.

"Election campaign" means actions and procedures in the period established by the Law within which a political subject informs the voters and the public, as prescribed by the Law, about their programs and candidates for the forthcoming elections.

The Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina calls on political parties, candidates and their supporters to adhere to the rules of conduct in the election campaign prescribed in Chapter 7 and Chapter 16 of the Election Law of BiH, as well as the media to respect the provisions of Chapter 16 of the Election Law of BiH and the deadlines prescribed by the Instruction on deadlines of election activities for holding early elections for the mayor of Stari Grad Sarajevo Municipality.

In accordance with the Decision on concluding and confirming the number of voters registered in the Central Voter List for early elections for the mayor of Stari Grad Sarajevo municipality, which was adopted by the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina at the 66th session held on 11 October 2023, a total of 36,195 voters were registered for early elections in the Central Voters' Register, including data as of October 9, 2023 at 24:00 hours, whereof 35,601 regular voters, 8 in person and 586 voters registered to vote by mail.

It is estimated that the costs from the competence of the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina for the early elections in the Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo will be BAM 89.500, while the municipality will have additional costs for the payment of fees to the members of the polling station committees and other minor expenses, so the total costs for the implementation of these early elections will be known after the elections.

We remind you that the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina certified the candidacies of Irfan Čengić (SDP-Social Democratic Party of Bosnia and Herzegovina) and Dženan Selimbegović (SDA-Party of Democratic Action) for participation in early elections for the Mayor of Stari Grad Sarajevo.

In accordance with the provisions of Article 15.10 of the BiH Election Law, the maximum amount of funds that a political subject can spend to finance the election campaign in the early elections for the mayor of the Stari Grad Sarajevo Municipality is BAM 10,858.50.

Early elections for the mayor of Stari Grad Sarajevo will be held on Sunday, October 29, 2023.
