Sarajevo, May 15, 2022 – The Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina passed the Decision on announcing and conducting the General Elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2022 on May 4, 2022. The elections will be held on Sunday, October 2, 2022.
According to the provisions of Article 1.2a of the BiH Election Law competent institutions must provide funds for the conduct of the elections within 15 days from the day the decision to announce the elections is issued by the Central Election Commission of BiH; in this case by May 15. The BiH Central Election Commission estimates that the costs of the 2022 General Elections will amount to approximately 12.528.000 KM.
The Central Election Commission of BiH will act in line with the provisions of the Election Law of BiH and strictly adhere to all legal provisions and deadlines that are prescribed.
We remind the public of Article 1.3a of the BiH Election Law according to which “Mandate of the members of representative bodies elected in the regular elections shall be four years and shall commence on the day when the election results have been published in the Official Gazette of BiH”. Results of the 2018 General Elections were published in the Official Gazette number 78/18 of November 6, 2018.
In accordance with the above, the mandate of the members of the representative bodies elected in the 2018 General Elections lasts until November 2022.
We urge decision-makers in Bosnia and Herzegovina to fulfill their legal obligation and provide financial resources for the implementation of the 2022 General Elections within the legal deadline.
