Warning to those responsible for collecting signatures of support to political entities to participate in elections

Sarajevo, May 16, 2022– In line with Article 4.4, paragraph (1) of the BiH Election Law the application for certification of a political party or independent candidate must include a list setting out the name, original signature, number of a valid ID card and National Identity number of each voter recorded in the Central Voters' Register who supports the application of the political party or independent candidate.

Political parties or independent candidates are obliged to collect signatures only on the forms issued to them by the Central Election Commission of BiH. Other forms, submitted by a political party or an independent candidate, will not be taken into account.

It is important to emphasize that the signature form also contains the name and surname, number of a valid ID card, the original signature and National Identity number of the person responsible for collecting support signatures.

With his/her signature, the responsible person confirms the authenticity and truthfulness of the collected signatures of support.

At the 2020 Local Elections, the Central Election Commission of BiH determined that the forms for collecting signatures of support also contained signatures for deceased persons, and had filed 173 reports to the competent prosecutor's offices.

Therefore, the Central Election Commission of BiH warns the persons responsible for collecting signatures of support to do so in accordance with the law and not to be in a situation to commit an „unlawful act prescribed by the law as a criminal offense for which a criminal sanction is set forth”.

The deadline for submitting applications of political parties and independent candidates for participation in the 2022 General Elections expires on Friday, May 20, 2022 at 16:00 hours.
