DEJAN PROŠIĆ IS NEWELY ELECTED MAYOR OF BOSANSKI PETROVAC/PETROVAC


Sarajevo, September 2, 2010 – The BiH Central Election Commission confirmed today the results of early elections for the mayor of municipality Bosanski Petrovac/Petrovac, which were held on August 29, 2010. Dejan Prošić (Democratic People's Union), who was the only candidate at the elections, won the elections with 200 votes.

At today's session the BiH Central Election Commission initiated ex-officio procedure againts political subjects of Croat Democratic Union BiH and Coalition HDZ 1990 – HSP for existence of doubt that they used services of paid political advertising before the official start of the election campaign.

The procedures against 37 political parties were also initiated today, which according to the findings in the audit reports for 2008 have violated certain provisions of the Law on political party financing. The reports based on which the procedures were initiated are available at the web site of the BiH Central Election Commission, www.izbori.ba .


CEC INVITES ALL POLITICAL SUBJECTS TO LEAD A FAIR CAMPAIGN


Sarajevo, September 2, 2010 –“The Central Election Commission will use all legally prescribed tools to sanction speech of hatred in the forthcoming campaign of political subjects, participating at the General Elections in BiH”, Irena Hadžiabdić, president of the BiH CEC pointed out while speaking at the press conference organized on occasion of official start of the political campaign.

While urging all participants of political campaign to sustain from use of nationalist and anti-state rhetoric, use of language that could incite someone to violence, to lead a fair campaign, Hadžiabdić especially stressed the role of the media in the election process and stressed that the aim of the BiH Central Election Commission is the confidence to BiH citizens to the election process.

Hadžiabdić said that the limit political subject can spend in the campaign is in total 65 million BAM, for political subjects having certified lists on all levels, individual limit amounts to around 3 million BAM.

Talking about the obligation of the candidates to submit asset declaration forms, the BiH CEC’s president said that 378 candidates out of total 3900 who had this obligation, failed to submit the declaration forms. Candidates who failed to meet this obligation will be sanctioned. The BiH CEC has the right to sanction candidate with financial fines amounting from 1000 to 5000 BAM. The BiH public can scrutinize the asset declaration forms on the web site of the BiH CEC www.izbori.ba .
