Certification of applications of political parties and independent candidates to participate in the 2018 General Elections

Sarajevo, 31.05.2018 – By considering the Report on conducted checks of applications of political parties and independent candidates, the BiH CEC has at today’s session started the process of certifying political parties for participation in the forthcoming General Elections in BiH scheduled for Sunday, October 7, 2018

 

 The BiH CEC received 72 applications of political parties and it has certified today 36 political parties that completely meet the conditions prescribed by the law. One application was partially certified, i.e. for the level of authority for which it meets the conditions, and 4 applications of political parties were rejected. Shortcomings were observed in applications of 31 political parties. Mostly they are lacking sufficient number of valid signatures of support. They will receive a notice on shortcomings and will be given a two day deadline to remove the shortcomings, i.e. the deadline will be Saturday, June 2, 2018 until 16:00 hours.

 

The BiH Central Election Commission received 39 applications of independent candidates for certification to participate in the 2018 General Elections. The BiH CEC has today certified applications of 10 independent candidates that entirely meet the conditions set by law. A total of five applications of independent candidates were rejected, while 24 independent candidates are given a two-day deadline from the day they receive the notice to remove all shortcomings in the application, i.e. by June 2, 2018 until 16:00 hours.

Decisions passed today are not final, and can be appealed before the Appellate Division of the Court of BiH through the BiH CEC two days following the day the decision was received.

 

 After competition of the process of certification of political parties and independent candidates the BiH CEC will publish the list of all certified political subjects on its official webpage.
