THEMATIC WORKSHOP „REINFORCING THE CREDIBILITY AND ACCEPTANCE OF ELECTORAL PROCESSES“ HELD IN JORDAN

Sarajevo, April 15, 2014 – Under the patronage of His Majesty King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein, the European Commission (EC) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in cooperation with the Independent Election Commission Jordan organize a five-day thematic workshop entitled “Reinforcing credibility and acceptance of electoral processes” from 7 to 11 April, 2014 in Jordan. The conference was attended by around 250 participants primarily representatives of the electoral management bodies, members of the parliament, media associations, Civil Society Organizations, UNDP staff, staff from EU Delegations and staff from international donor agencies and regional organizations active in electoral assistance and electoral observation.


During the conference Mrs. Irena Hadžiabdić, member of the BiH Central Election Commission, presented how the Central Election Commission deals with political parties and ethnicity issues. Also, as the BiH CEC’s member in the Executive Board of the Association of European Election Officials (ACEEEO) Mrs. Hadžiabdić presented the work of this umbrella European Association of electoral management bodies. Out of 250 participants of the Conference Mrs. Hadžiabdić had the honor to be appointed amongst four participants to present the conference’s conclusions.

The aim of the conference was to elicit best practices and to provide electoral management bodies and key stakeholders with information and comparative experiences on accountability and transparency in electoral processes. The debate mainly focused on how to increase credibility of electoral process and to what extent election administration and other key stakeholders can contribute to this process, and have better cooperation through the professional associations.
