MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING SIGNED BETWEEN BiH CEC AND OFFICE OF THE COUNCIL OF EUROPE IN SARAJEVO

Sarajevo, March 19, 2014 – Memorandum of Understanding between the BiH Central Election Commission and the Office of the Council of Europe for the year 2014 was signed today in Sarajevo. The Memorandum was signed by Mr. Stjepan Mikić, president of the BiH CEC and Mrs. Mary Ann Hannesey, Head of the Office of the Council of Europe in Sarajevo.

In the framework of signed memorandum the parties recognize the need to develop the best possible educational facilities with the aim of improving the electoral process in BiH. The Council of Europe will closely co-operate with the BiH Central Election Commission amongst others in the field of education and training of presidents of the polling station committees, through ten of one-day seminars across the country on the topic: "The provisions of the Criminal Law in BiH and the criminal provisions from the electoral legislation of BiH in connection with the electoral process in BiH". The Council of Europe will support the preparation of the video presentation entitled: "Acting of the polling station committee on the election day" and printing new edition of the Manual for the work of the polling station committees.

Signing the memorandum is only continuance of the years’ long cooperation between the BiH Central Election Commission and the Office of the Council of Europe in Sarajevo.

President of the BiH Central Election Commission Mr. Stjepan Mikić and Mrs Irena Hadžiabdić, member of the BiH CEC met today with Ambassador Robert Battelli, chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for security and cooperation in Europe (OSCE). The topic of the meeting was the forthcoming 2014 General Election in BiH.
